August 29, 2010: The lake - a safe source of drinking water ?

The association wishes to remind all home and cottage owners of Tee Lake, that raw water from the lake is NOT necessarily a safe source of drinking water. Raw water from most lakes do NOT meet minimum criteria for safe drinking water as specified by the Quebec ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks. It is the responsability of every cottage or home owner to take the necessary steps to ensure water drawn from the lake is properly treated before it is consummed.

bullet Signs indicating the location of lot numbers have been built by Howard Green and installed at strategic locations.

Awareness towards the environment

·       We are very proud and happy to still have a lake with good water quality and we thank all residents for their efforts to maintain its quality. For those with questions on what to do to protect our lake, here are some ideas:

o      Use soaps without phosphates, no use of soaps directly in the lake, planting perennials or trees on the watershore to revive the banks, do not put fertilizer near the lake to not feed the algae, etc..

o      It’s finally all and everyone's responsibility to educate his family and neighbors!

Finally, we would be pleased to receive from you any comments or suggestions to improve our co-habitation and / or the environment.

Raymond Moreau

May 16, 2008: Some new developments on issues related to the residents of Lake Tee.
Road: Last year, the town of Témiscaming began working on the road around Lake Tee under the 2007-2011 five-year project. The work should begin again this year after the thaw regulated by the Ministry of Transport.

Waste bins: The garbage truck came around the lake Tee to ensure there were no problems . After some improvements to be made after the thaw, the town of Témiscaming should give permission to the MRC to make the collection of domestic waste and recycling at our doorstep.

Road signs: As you have probably noticed beautiful road signs were installed. A at the intersection of roads north and east indicating the numbers of land on each of paths and at the end of each  road indicating the last lot number. These  were hand made by Mr Howard Green. The cost of materials was paid by the town of Temiscaming.

Composting: The town of Témiscaming will offer a course on composting. If you are interested in this course contact the city at this phone number: 819-627-3273. The committee strongly encourage you to participate. This will significantly reduce the amount of waste collection and reduction of pollution in addition to creating a good fertilizer for your plants and gardens.

Environment: Another project has emerged this year in Quebec for the protection of our lakes. It is the voluntary monitoring network of lakes Resorts (RSV-lakes). It is to make analyses of water on the nutritional content of materials in the lake. It analyzes the phosphate (nutrient aquatic plants and algae), chlorophyll (quantity indicator algae in the lake), the transparency of water (it decreases the amount of algae in the Lake). For more information, visit:
http://www.mddep.gouv.qc.ca/eau/rsv-lacs/methodes.htm

This project has a budget impact on our finances. It costs $ 330.00 for 3 levies, be in June, July and August. Application forms of participation (RSV-Lakes) were sent on March 31, 2008. We received a receipt forms on April 3 2008 Madam Lena Poissonnet the direction of the state of the environment, Information Service on aquatic environments. On April 18, Mrs. M. Ouellet of the direction of monitoring the state of the environment and responsible for the project has contacted us for more information on our lake. So far we have received no additional development in this file. We will keep you abreast of future decisions.

The regional council of the Environment Abitibi-Témiscamingue to set up an aid programme for the protection of banks sector holiday. The project manager is Mr. Ambroise Lycke Notre-Dame du Nord. He can be reached by telephone at 819-629-5010 or by email at: ambroiselycke@creat08.ca
This program aims to help local residents improve their band of riparian vegetation to slow the aging of the lake. For more information about the visit: www.creat08.ca/even_berges.php

The forum on lakes held in Saar last April found that several residents on some lakes had problems with algae, while others had concerns for the future. We believe it is time for us, bordering Lake Tee, analyze our lake to have statistics that will enable us to track every year. In this way we can take the necessary measures to keep the lake Tee healthy and as long as possible.

October 1st 2007:  During a meeting of information concerning the collection of the waste with the city of Témiscaming, the committee  was informed that a new place as well as new bins will be given to the local residents. This place would be situated near the current bin of recycling. In this way, this one would be not visible from the road 101. The picking of household refuse will continue to be made from these new bins for the moment. The city of Témiscaming tries to find solutions to remedy this problem.

Environnement The committee received from the Ministry of the Environment a series of leaves(pages) of information in link with the good management of our banks and our grounds. These leaflets(gatefolds) want avant-gardists for the protection of our lake. To get you these leaves(pages), please contact the following address:secretaire@riverainslactee.com

Security of the dam: We inform you that the Centre d'expertise hydrique du Quebec ( CEHQ) is going to acquire soon a buoy of protection, and that it will proceed to its installation upstream to the dam Tee, in spring, 2008.

May 27 2007: Save the motors ! The association has installed a few orange buoys to mark some particularly massive rocks that are just a few cm underwater. Click here  to see what awaits the foot of your speeding motor. This massive rock, located about 100 metres from shore is completly invisible until your are practically on top of it. Please note that the association is not in a position to identify every underwater obstacle in the lake. Also note that some of the dangers are floating on top of the water. There are still many BIG logs drifting on the lake as the result of the water level fluctuation last year. Boat with caution !

May 25 2007: The annual general meeting of all residents and cottage owners of lac Tee and du Moulin will held Saturday June 23, 11:00 AM at 308 chemin du lac Tee. Now that the major issue of the lake level is behind us , the association has identified a number of other smaller issues of common interest to be addressed in the future. Attend and find out more.

March 15 2007: As part of the 5 year road improvement program of the town, ( details here)The town of Temiscaming will soon begin the process of clearing out a 4 meter corridor on each side of cottage roads maintained by the town. This work aims to:

1.  Improve the security by improving visibility.

2.  Improve drainage and facilitate the maintenance of the ditches.

3.  Improve grading and snowplowing of the roads.

The town will not cut down trees that do not cause drainage or visibility problems. They will also spare trees that are particularly aesthetics. No work will be performed where cottages, houses or the lake are within 4 meters of the road.

Cottage and homeowners are advised to spray paint with phosphorescent orange paint at chest level any tree within 4 meters of the road on the frontage of their lot that they do not want the town to cut down.

19 mars 2007: Many of us were surprised by the recent drastic increase in municipal taxes. They are the result of the latest property assessment. Those of you who wish to have the property re evaluated must do so before May 1, 2007.

Please note that the value of our properties have increased due to the increase in real estate value of these properties. Those who wish to submit a request for re-evaluation must have valid reasons for doing so: building defects, flooding problems or indication that similar properties were sold for a lower amount then the evaluation of your property.
